Samsung will launch its home AI companion robot, Ballie, in the US and Korea this summer. Powered by Google’s Gemini AI technology, it will help users manage home tasks such as adjusting lights, greeting people at the door, and setting schedules and reminders.
Advanced Capabilities Through Gemini Integration
The integration of Gemini allows Ballie to process audio and video inputs, visual data from its camera, and sensor data. For example, if you ask Ballie how you look, it can respond and suggest suitable accessories or clothing.
Health and Wellbeing Support
Ballie can also answer health-related queries. If a user feels tired, they can ask Ballie for advice on improving energy levels. Using Gemini, it will search Google for relevant results and provide a tailored response.
Video Playback and Projection
Ballie is capable of playing videos through its built-in projector. It can move around the house and project images onto various surfaces, turning any room into a mini home theater. Demonstrations have also shown the robot displaying educational videos, pet content, or visual reminders on the wall.
Controlling Devices, Including a Gaming PC
During the CES 2025 demonstration, it was shown that Ballie can not only control standard home devices but also turn on more complex devices like a gaming PC. This highlights the robot’s ability to integrate with various home technologies.
Future Plans and Market Context
Samsung is reportedly planning to launch an AI Subscription Club for Ballie and Galaxy smartphones. However, the pricing for both the subscription and the robot has not been disclosed yet.
Meanwhile, Apple is also working on smart home devices, including a home hub and a robot with arms, with a launch expected by 2027.
